It’s that time of year again, lovelies! The time when we all crank up the thermostat, bundle up in toques and mittens, and pray for less snow than last year. It’s winter time!
Winter has never really been my friend. I’m the type of person who pulls on a sweater as soon as the weather drops below 20 C and shivers at the first sight of frost. My woolly scarf collection would put your grandmother’s to shame, and I have seriously considered whether I was a reptile in a former life.
Because I get cold so easily, I tend to make sure I have warming dishes on my table all winter long. Any recipe that I can make in the oven is on my list, and a lot of them will feature carbs, cheese, and a whole load of hearty winter veg. My favourite vegetable to make in the winter? The sweet potato! I find them so versatile and comforting — you can do just about anything with them that you would a regular potato (stews, soups, mashes, quiches, pies, etc.), but they’re much more nutrient dense and have oodles more natural flavour. For this season’s food love post, I’m bringing you nine amazing and creative recipes featuring this delicious root vegetable! Stay warm!
2. Grilled Sweet Potato Wedges with Sweet Curry Aioli from The Busy Baker — Wedge fries are the best in my opinion. And that curry aioli? I’d like a bucket full, please!
3. Potato & Sweet Potato Stacks with Caramelized Onions and Prosciutto from Cooks with Cocktails — This has ALL of my favourite things! What a perfect holiday appetizer!
8. Sweet Potato Pie Cinnamon Rolls with Butter Whipped Meringue Frosting from Half Baked Harvest — What??! Excuse me while I pass out from awesomeness.
